Two Awards for SRBIAU’s Lecturer

Dissertation of a faculty member in SRBIAU was grant- ed two awards by the Masonry Society (TMS) of U.S.A.

Dr. Saman Babaei-Darabad, full-time faculty member in the Structural Engineering department of Science and Research branch, was granted two awards of “NAMC’s Outstanding Journal Paper” and “Outstanding Dissertation”, given out in two separate categories. Babaei said: “The field of reinforcing walls by the use of FRCM composites is fairly new and unexplored in Iran.” Noting the erosion of concrete structures and fittings through the passage of time and exposure to climactic changes, he continued: “Improving the resistance threshold of these structures is done based on precise measures cited in the regulations and is- sued guidelines.”

Babaei, deriving 6 ISI papers out of this study with the high citation index of 5.2, continued: “In this study, concrete pins and walls were tested and the link be- tween RPM and FRCM methods was found through developing a graph.”

He expressed that the objective of this study was to decrease the possibility of forming cracks in concrete structures and added: “Based on this, we can prevent the possible subsidence and cracking of the structures through evaluation of the physical status, estimation of expenses and prediction of the behaviors the structure would show in different circumstances.”

Mentioning that this project was possible through collaboration with an Italian company, Babaei said: “Science and Research branch is working on the expansion of its relation with different industries and better dissertations and advanced, equipped labs will help this center to raise its scientific standing.”

It should be mentioned that TMS of U.S.A. is a society similar to Iran’s Construction Engineering Organization (IRCEO); each year, this society evaluates more than 100 papers and dissertations to introduce the superior achievements and breakthroughs in this field.
