SRB Scientists Present Research to Reduce Side Effects of Cancer Treatment Drug

Researchers at SRBIAU have carried out a study designed to examine the effects of a nano-structure material to protect reproductive system and gestation, through tests under cancer treatment conditions, the SRB Office of Public Relation reports.

Agricultural engineering MS student, Sara Rastgoo said: “We found out that Nano-selenium reduces the side effects of a cancer treatment drug on reproductive system function of female rats. The research shows that Doxorubicin usage could reduce plasma antioxidant capacity and other blood parameters, which contain gonad-tropic and steroidal hormones. Findings of the research helps to conclude that the Nano-selenium and Nano-zinox in dosages used in the study, has improving effects on plasma progesterone concentration. Rastgoo also noted that using these two elements has desirable effects on red blood cells number and can increase RBC count.

The research which has been accomplished under the guidance of Dr. Ali Asghar Sadeghi, an SRB faculty, is published in Nanoscale Research Letters Journal (Vol. 7, Issue 1, 2015)
